Preserving history and tradition

Waiheke Working Sail has been a registered charitable trust (NZ Charities Services Reg No. CC50233) since 2014 and aims to preserve the tradition of seafaring, seamanship and boat building in the Hauraki Gulf and beyond. Devoted volunteers and our trustees have donated countless hours to this cause, bringing an array of valuable skills to help the organisation stay afloat. We’ve been very lucky to have generous monetary donations and fundraisers benefit Waiheke Working Sail from the wonderful Waiheke community, but our work is an ongoing task that requires ongoing support.

How you can help

We are grateful for any form of help that is offered, whether it is offers of tuition and instruction for our apprentices, donations of parts/labour, or monetary donations. Refitting a piece of New Zealand shipping history is an expensive task in both time and money but through donations the job has been made much, much easier. Depending on what you can afford to give, you can help us out in several ways.

Donate through Givealittle.org.nz

Buy a limited edition fine art print

Renowned fine artist David Barker has created an incredible piece of what the Kate would look like fully-restored and sailing on the high seas again. A limited run of only 100 signed and numbered prints from David himself were donated to help fundraise for the Kate’s restoration and many of them have already been sold. These prints are extremely high quality and ready for framing, an immaculate gift for any classic boat lover. If you’d like to purchase one of these very special archival prints for $225.00 (NZD), you can email Bernard Rhodes directly.
